Club Cafe, Original Home Of The "Fat Man", Santa Rosa New Mexico

The Club Cafe was opened in 1935 and a few years later, the famous "Fat Man" logo was created. The smiling portly figure in jacket and tie was seen on billboards along Route 66 beckoning travelers to stop and eat at the Club Cafe. Before the building was torn down, a sign on the dining room wall claimed that they had served two million sour dough biscuits. I had been hoping to see the large round "Fat Man' logo still there, but he was not. As I mentioned in an eariler post, he was there, just not where I had expected him to be and I missed him. His image is now the image of Joseph's Bar & Grill. The original sign was saved and now resides at the Route 66 Auto Museum. You can see what is left of this iconic Route 66 restaurant on Route 66 in Santa Rosa, NM
