My first thought was, it is a shame that such a great vintage neon sign needed a spell check. As it turns out, tepee (not teepee) is the correct spelling for a cone-shaped tent. This really caught our eyes. The entrance to the shop is through the large concrete tepee on the front of the building. Built in 1944, this building was orginally a Gulf gas station and it became a souvenir shop when Route 66 was widened in 1959 causing the station to lose it's pumps. We read somewhere that this is the last of the orginal Route 66 Curio shops in New Mexico. You won't miss it on Route 66 in Tucumcari, NM
