The "Fat Man" Has Been Saved, Santa Rosa New Mexico

While driving by, I snapped a photo of the neon sign in front of Joseph's Bar & Grill because I liked the retro look of it. The restaurant opened as the La Fiesta Cafe in 1956 and the sign was added in 1985 when it became Joseph's. What I didn't realize until later was that the iconic "Fat Man" from the Club Cafe had been adopted as the image for Joseph's and is pictured on the front of the building. I guess you'll have to see that one for yourself because I didn't get a photo of him. Maybe next time. The restaurant has been through some other changes too. It was originally a drive-in when it opened in 1956 but was so popular that it was converted into a full service restaurant and later became Santa Rosa's first cafeteria style restaurant. Along the way, the building was also updated with space for a Route 66 gift shop and a bar. The restaurant is still in operation and boasts authentic Mexican and classic diner food. You will find it on Route 66 in Santa Rosa, NM
