The Welcome Wagon, Needles California

This big borax wagon was once part of the signage for the El Rancho Motel. Borax wagons were used to move borax (a type of salt), dug up at Death Valley, to the railways in the 1880s. They were pulled by teams of eighteen mules and two horses. As the town’s unofficial mascot, it's a quirky slice of desert hospitality that says, “You made it to Needles, now brace yourself for some serious small-town charm.” Driving into town, you'll see it on West Broadway Street in Needles, CA
