I thought that I was seeing my first Whiting Bros. gas station, but as it turned out, this station was never a Whiting Bros. It was part of a Tucumcari restoration project that painted several buildings to look like restored Route 66 era buildings. It was still fun to look up the brand and find that they were a chain of gas stations that started in 1926 in Arizona. At their peak they had more than 100 filling stations (at least 40 on Route 66), motels and truck stops. The business began to fade in the 70's and ended in the 80's.
